Description
When designing any structure or scene, I feel it is important to present a location that seems probable, seems as though it could be real. Even in a fantasy setting, it needs to be grounded. With that in mind, I started work on what was originally intended to be a simple tea house, specifically, an ochaya. The first hurdle to overcome is that there is no tatami mat in Townbuilder (yet). There are, however, the building blocks to make one. Each tatami mat in this design is actually a composite of 13 pieces. Having created the tatami mat, I then had to use it, and things got a bit out of control, especially as things got added to help it feel real. There's a front stairway for patrons, a back stairway for access to the stage and kitchen. Restrooms are, outdoor, as is the large oven, with locked access between patron and employee areas, so that an employee could clean the area and then shovel any refuse out the back of the courtyard (or take deliveries that way). Rather than the first floor being entirely guest rooms, a large portion of it is open, so that guests may watch the stage performance from that floor. The second floor allows for storage above the guest rooms, with the latter for access tucked away on the ground floor. This is also where I discovered that there is an upper limit to what you can do, as I was regularly running out of browser memory. My only regret is that there is no way I would be able to finish printing this in time for this competition, but it will get printed.
