Extra dimension Glasses that can only be produced efficiently by 3D printing.
But why 4 dimensions
These glasses are made up of 3 layers
The inner frame
The middle frame that also positions the lenses and can be easily scaled in Z for thicker or thiner glasses
The outer frame
Each frame can be printed in different colors, adding endless personalization possibilities.
I have included the letter W with a white backing on the outer sides of the frames but this could easily be changed.
Ian wrights face gives to many shapes of glasses with it’s oval forme but the frames need to stay inside the oval shape for they risk destroying the clean lines, these frames are designed on a sharp upper form showing intellect and awareness then smoothing down to a curved lower form, keeping the fun caring side of Ian’s character.
With endless possibilities of personalization going from 3 colors to the lettering I have chosen an orange with white liner layer. The orange compliments Ian’s skin color without being « over the top » and seems to blend in well the white inner layer allows me to give the glasses an extra dimension without the glasses becoming overwhelming.
I have included STL files for an assembly jig allowing the glasses to be glued together in perfect alignment.
The 3 layers also allow for a more robust design, a bit like plywood. Making them much more durable in time.
Hope you like them Ian
The jig was waxed before gluing the 3 layers together using UV hardening glue
Printed flat then assembled and glued together in the jig using UV Glue This gives a curved laminated assembly that is very strong Each layer takes only 7 minutes to print and the stems take 12 minutes.
