St Francis of Assisi
St Francis of Assisi
Published 2017-11-21T11:35:28+00:00
This cast of St Francis of Assisi is one of the saints carved for the high altar of the Santo in Padua, made by Donatello, which comprised numerous bronze figures and reliefs.
St Francis is shown here holding a crucifix and the bible, his contemplative stance, suggesting his piety, is at the same time an elegant contrapposto pose, derived from classical figures.

Used SUNLU Wood filament to make sanding easier. Scaled up to 12" in Z-axis and sliced into 7 pieces in MeshMixer to reduce need for support. Printed head (2 pieces) at .12mm and the rest at .2mm. 3 walls with 0% infill. Filled each part with drywall mixture. Sanded with 120/240/320/400 grit sandpaper. Filled gaps with wood epoxy putty (Lowes). Primer was Modern Masters Metal Effects Primer and painted with Modern Masters Reactive Metallic Iron paint (Amazon). Used Rub 'n Buff Wax Metallic Finish Gold Leaf for crucifix and Bible (Michaels). Took about 13 hours to print bottom [largest piece]. Other parts took anywhere from 45 min to 3 hours. The print turned out phenomenally and very well detailed. Thank you very much for the STL!
