Design Brief

We're super excited to announce that we're partnering with Sinterit for an all new, first of it's kind, 3D design and print competition.

What? Sinterit? Isn't that a desktop laser sintering 3D printer? Yes it is, and believe it or not Sinterit is giving away a Sinterit Lisa as the first prize, an incredible machine worth $7,000!

So what do you have to do to take home this amazing prize? Show off your 3D design skills of course!

This time we have three themes for you to enter into (more details and examples further down this page). You can enter as many times as you like and into any of the themes. The key criteria that the judges will be looking at is that your design is well thought out for SLS machines - these have different capabilities to FDM and SLA. Some of the key benefits of the Sinterit Lisa to consider:

  • SLS printing does not use support material
  • Freedom of form
  • Multiple connected parts at once
  • High detail
  • Durable
  • Print Moving parts

  • Important: the maximum build volume of the Lisa that you can use is 90 x 100 x 120mm, make sure you design fits within this space.

Take these all into consideration when creating your designs, judges from MyMiniFactory and Sinterit will be looking at how you incorporate those features into your work and will decide on their favourite designs.

One overall winner will be decided from all the entries into all the themes.

    Good luck!

    Top Tips

So you want to win a design competition?
Here are some top tips to help you climb up the leader board.

    1. Think about your design(s) in relation to the brief and how you might best optimise it specifically for SLS 3D printing.

    2. Make sure your designs adhere to all the guidelines - size in particular - of the Sinterit Lisa. for more information on how to do this.

    3. Be as creative as you can with this one, without the need for support material you can design in new and innovative ways. The only limits are the size of the print bed and you imagination!

    4. Once your design is approved, post it on Twitter with #MadeForSinterit @MyMiniFactory @Sinterit.

    • Read and understand the design brief.
    • Thinkabout how you can best deliver a solution.
    • Use the tips and resources provided
    • Explain the concept behind your design.
    • Presentprint, and photograph your design with care.

Please note - you do not need to 3D print your entry yourself, submission of just the 3D printable model (in STL format) will suffice. We strongly recommend that you 3D print your own entry if you can, as this will allow you to showcase your piece as it was intended and improve your chances.
Designs that are submitted without photos of the final 3D print will be printed by the MyMiniFactory community - subject to printability and at a reduced scale if necessary. If you are unclear on any part of the competition, please email info@myminifactory.com for further support.
