This is my entry for the design contest from 3D Printing Nerd! UPDATED: FINAL VERSION (V3)
Joel Telling (3D Printing Nerd) wants to design us a filament spool holder which fits on the shelves shown in his video.
A simple, but very nice challenge i thought. So i started to design something different which can be printed in one piece.
I chose to design a unique looking spool holder which can hold two 1kg MatterHackers filament spools. This could be useful when one 3D printer has two extruders, but this spool holder can also provide two spools of filament for two 3D printers standing next to eachother.
The space to hang a spool is 85mm (33.5") on each side. I attached my FreeCAD file to alter it if needed (.FCStd file).
There are two clamps to avoid hitting an edge of a spool laying on the shelves. It also prevents tilting when hanging one spool on the holder.
There is a bigger chamfer on the clamps on one side, to prevent hitting the filament which is on a spool laying on the shelves.
It's recommended to mount it with two M6 bolts to the shelf to make it more solid (you can see two holes for this in the model).
I hope this spool holder will save you some time for painting ;-)
I added a FreeCAD file to alter this object. Product usage is for your own risk.
- PETG filament (PLA also possible)
- 20% normal support (1mm outside product) | 25% dense support (3 layers)
- infill 30%
- 250 micron
- 3600mm/min
- top 3 solid layers | bottom 3 solid layers | outline 3 layers
- 420 minutes of printing
- 118 grams of filament
