This is a very detailed 3d topo of Yosemite Valley's Cathedral Spires. The model is so detailed that you can clearly see the ledge on the classic climbing route on Lower Cathedral Spire.
I made it from a LIDAR dataset collected to study nitrogen export and made available on http://opentopo.sdsc.edu/. The LIDAR point cloud was gridded to a 0.5m resolution.

The print took 18 hrs. It was sliced with Simplify3d at default high quality settings and printed in PLA on a FlashForge. There is a slight crack at the bottom of Bridalveil Creek caused by not using infill on the print.
This thing was featured on the 3D Printing Today podcast available on iTunes, Stitcher radio or direct from the source at http://threedprintingtoday.libsyn.com/
