I've been doing 3D computer animation professionally since 1988. I've modeled pretty much everything at this point, lol. But, there was always a desire to turn an object that only lived in the computer into something real that you could touch and hold. In the mid 90's I discovered 3D printers at a trade show in Las Vegas. Unfortunately they were around $50,000 and I knew I would never be able to afford one. Many moons went by and I started to look into them again. I saw some videos of 3D printers that were made from a kit. The quality on these home machines wasn't that great yet but it looked promising. About a year or so after that I started to poke around on the internet and was amazed how far they'd come in such a short time. The quality was pretty much getting to the level of what I had seen on those expensive machines in the mid 90's. I purchased a 3D printer kit and built a couple of years ago. I'm having a ton of fun with it. A lot of what I make with it is for my young son. He keeps me busy. I've decided to start sharing some of my designs on this site.
