More classic board games! Queen's Guard was another one I read about and thought "sounds cool, let's go!". If I may quote from Wikipedia:
"[Queen's Guard] may be the oldest board game played on a hexagonally-celled board, first appearing in France as early as the late eighteenth century. The game reached its greatest popularity a century later when the Victorians embraced it for its blend of simple rules and complex strategy."
You'll find the rules for the game in the link above, and there are other resources like Board Game Geek that provide more insights on strategy and history, too.
Now, after building my big, satisfying Hex Board Game Set, I was hesitant to design something that required that level of commitment to print. So, this game is very much designed as "travel size", and the 6*6*6 hex board is only a few inches across! But, we're printing this in plastic, and that has a downside. See, the big Hex set works well because the pieces are large enough to have a bit of weight to them. With this Queen's Guard set being quite small, the actual pieces weighed practically nothing. So, what to do?
Bolts! They're not essential, but some 10mm M3 socket-head bolts will make this much nicer! The pieces are designed to allow the bolts to be screwed in from below, giving them a nice low centre of gravity, and much more weight.
Given the relatively small number of pieces, I didn't design a specific case for the game - I just use a Citrus Box to hold them.
So, read up, put on your Victorian-era gamer garb, and have fun! :)
Nothing tricky here, but you'll want to test-print the board inset and make sure your printer and slicer configuration give you a nice tight fit!
