Description
The high relief of this marble sarcophagus depicts Dionysus holding a cup standing in a centaur-driven chariot, in 'parapetasma'. Phallopetal snakes emerfe from cistae mysticae (a secret casket) below a centaur, while winged putti ride on the centaur. Hercules, naked and drunken, staggers while gazing at a woman, who holds up her draperry but meets his gaze. Liknaphoros with an unconcealed phallus stands with a satyr stood onward next to him. An Ithyphallic Pan leads a lion while dancing over a cista mystica, while impossible contorted satyr closes the parade.
