Background:
Okay so this is a fun thing for all of those who are creative. I love to dabble in many hobbies, I fist was a wood worker, I have been in the building industry for many years and found my love for 3D printing based of my love for creating. I design and create solid wood acoustic speakers, this is a rendition of upcycling a 250ml can as the sound chamber and using a 3D printer to make what I typically make from wood. This unit contains a wire chase to charge your phone while remaining flat, acoustic chamber made from the upcycled can, and the front facing ported design helps to amplify the sound coming from the stock speakers on your favorite phone.
Instructions:
It prints easily with minimal supports, you place your upcycled 250ml can inside the unit and mark the top and front and charging port holes with a sharpie or similar. Once you have the location marked, cut the openings and place the can back into the acoustic amplifier. At that point you just are about finished- you can use the bottom hole and wire chase cut out to lay flat and to charge your phone. Great for desktop use while at your work station or use it to charge beside the bed and of course to amplify the sound coming from the existing speaker on your phone. This will accept most any phone on the market even with a hard-standard case on the phone.
Printing:
Leave the unit flat on the solid end on the build plate (standing up to minimize support material). Supports are not always needed depending on the printer settings but I recommend leaving them enabled to ensure a successful print. The denser the print the better sound it will provide but 20% to 50% would suffice. .2mm layer height is also more than acceptable.
This file also includes a riser block if needed for anyone with smaller phones to still be able to use the speaker dock. Just place it inside the cutout before you place your phone inside. This will allow just about any device to be used reguarless of size.
P.S.- I found it just as easy to install the up-cycled can into the speaker dock unit and then cut the can out with it already inside the unit. This makes it a perfect fit and it is a bit safer and easier to do. Make sure to place the open end into the unit first so you don't have a hole on the end of the dock where the sound can escape.
