Introducing the new 'Print for' programme by Esso. Helping to sustain nature and change people's lives, the programme looks to use the massively growing 3D printing community to make the world a better place. It is estimated that there will be over 6.7 million 3d printers worldwide by the year 2020. Additionally, around 6700 cans get thrown away every second. Esso’s Print for Programme looks to use cans in simple and creative ways, to have a positive impact on the world. Once the programme is launched, people with 3d printers will be encouraged to print connectors all around the world. The simple connector shape is designed to be easy to print as the part doesn’t require supports. Additionally, the size of the shape will fit on most 3D printer beds making it accessible to all. Education will also be promoted to help create connectors with online tutorials on how to make the parts. This will help to teach children how to computer aided design and 3d printing. These connectors could be used as test prints to help save material.
Once you’ve printed at least 10 connectors, take them to your nearest Esso petrol station or pick up point. You will be given a voucher for 5p off every litre of fuel you buy for printing the parts. (Education will be given different rewards). Once the pick-up points have collected enough connectors, they will be sent to 3rd world countries to help create upcycled housing out of cans. Cement will be used to bond the cans together, Volunteers will help to create housing all around the globe thanks to every 3D printed part. Additionally, if you would like to make a change on a more local scale, why not try the Print for Pollen Programme.
The print for programme has 3 different connector shapes to choose from, each shape has a different use. Connectors are designed to be very simple to use as well as very simple to print. On average a square connector will take under 2 hours to fully print. Connectors can be customised by using different colour filaments. CAD files will be provided online, allowing you to modify the Esso logo and replace it with your name.
