Description
The marble for this group commissioned by the Bâtiments du Roi was delivered to Vinache in 1747. Unfinished at the time of the sculptor’s death, it was completed by Gillet in 1758. It decorated the park at the Château de Ménars (Loir-et-Cher), which the marquis de Marigny had inherited on the death of his sister, the marquise de Pompadour.
The group is heavily influenced by Sarazin’s “Children with a Goat”, which Vinache had copied and restored.
